Leading University Creating Innovation for Sustainable Future

Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable
and modern energy
Renewable Energy and Electric Vehicle Education at Siam University
Siam University commissioned the first phase of its solar rooftop system In September 2020. The system serves to supply clean energy to the campus, and functions as a living laboratory for teaching and learning about renewable energy. It was trported that the system has reduced electricity costs for the university’s academic buildings by approximately 10 percent.
The university also promotes education and research on electric vehicles (EVs) as part of a broader effort to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The Faculty of Engineering currently offers a continuing series of short training courses on EVs and related systems under the New-Generation Graduates Program (Non-Degree) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and the European Union Erasmus+ exchange network. These courses enable members of the public, engineers, and technicians to upskill and reskill in response to the growing EV sector.
Two of the Faculty’s flagship courses are described below.
1. Modern Automotive Propulsion System Developer
This course provides in-depth instruction in the theory and operation of EV propulsion systems. Participants study system architecture and gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting through laboratory practice. The course uses a hybrid format that combines online and on-site sessions. Classes are held only on weekends to accommodate working professionals. Training is provided free of charge, enrollment in each cohort is limited, and participants receive a certificate upon completion.
2. EV System and EV Charging Station Design and Installation
This practice-oriented course covers the calculation, design, installation, and maintenance of EV charging equipment, including charging cabinets and charging stations. It is typically delivered in partnership with specialized organizations, such as the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), or with leading technology companies. On 22–23 August 2026, the Faculty of Engineering conducted the training course “Technician Course on the Installation and Maintenance of Electric Vehicle Chargers.” The course was part of the EGAT TOGETHER project, a collaboration with the EGAT. Students, alumni, and staff of Siam University took part and learned from expert instructors from EGAT. To further fulfill our mission, Siam University has built strong connection with industry. For example, on 16 August 2026, the President met with Mr. Zhu Youlei, an executive of BYD Auto (Thailand) to discuss about a potential collaboration to establish a training center for developing skills in electric vehicle (EV) technology covering maintenance, after-sales service, and other EV-related operations. Through these partnerships, our faculty members and students would gain exposure to the equipment and standards used in industry.

Engineering Team Wins First Runner-Up in the Toyota Young Engineer Car Contest
Exceed AE, a team of automotive engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering at Siam University, won First Runner-Up in the Yaris Cross category of the “Toyota Young Engineer Car Contest: Start Passion, Shape Ideas.” The team received a scholarship of THB 100,000. The competition, which was organized by Toyota Motor Thailand on 16 December 2025, sought outstanding engineering student teams from leading educational institutions nationwide. Teams were challenged to design car body kits for the Toyota Yaris Ativ and Yaris Cross models, applying engineering and aerodynamic principles. In the Yaris Cross category, the winning team was Toyotu from Chulalongkorn University, which received a THB 150,000 scholarship. Second Runner-Up was Tachyon Racing from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, which received a THB 50,000 scholarship.
