Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

The Ecolife Application that Siam University participates has worked with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to add a new version relating to Tree Planting. Each time the users scan QR code for refusing single-use plastic products, they will receive 5 points which can be redeemed for 1 tree. They hope that this incentive will have impact on the EGAT 3,000,000 Rai Reforestation Project. After the launch of this new project on October 20, 2021, Siam University is very quick in response and we were reported, a week later, that Siam University was ranked 1 st in the university ranking of this project.

With regard to academic and social engagement activities, Siam University has offered and supported many environmental-related courses and activites. Within our campus, various faculties have initiated project relating to SDG 13. Faculty of Nursing starts their project in Thai traditional herb garden. The Office of Student Affairs has organized 2020 eco-friendly “Loy krathong” festival activities online during the pandemic. In this event, only natural leaves and flowers were used, foam, plastic and other polystyrene are not allowed. In addition, the “Planting for the Land” event were undertaken in 2020 and 2021 with the concern of health and well-being of the People and the Planet. The first event was organized with collaboration from MHESI and the Forest Department, our 14 faculties have planted jackfruit tree, bamboo tree, tamarind tree, maca tree, and mahogany tree. Another event was organized on the rememblance day of the beloved late King Bhumibol Adulyadej by planting Ratchaphruek tree, a symbol of His Majesty on October 13, 2021.
