Collaboration on Food Waste Reduction

This collaboration supports UN Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.3, which aims to halve per capita global
food waste by 2030, and seeks to make sustainable food consumption a lasting norm in Thailand. Under a
memorandum of understanding, the Sustainable University Network of Thailand (SUN Thailand) and the Office
of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), Ministry of Natural Resources and
Environment, committed to advancing SDG 12 through the campaign “Stop Food Waste, Sustain the Future.” On
30 March 2026, Professor Dr. Chanita Rukspollmuang, Vice President of Siam University, and Ms. Busaba
Saenprasert represented SUN Thailand at the launch of the “Reduce Leftovers, Reduce Waste: Stop Food Waste
SDG 12.3” initiative at CentralWorld. ONEP organised the initiative with the National Metal and Materials
Technology Center (MTEC), NSTDA, whose LookieWaste application links policy with practice to reduce food
waste systematically. More than 300 restaurants at CentralWorld joined and displayed the initiative’s sticker as
a commitment to responsible food waste management and mindful consumption. On 27 May 2026, the
university also took part in “Stop Food Waste: Eat Well, Love the Planet, Win More.” The Ministry organised this
campaign with The Mall Group and other private-sector partners to build an end-to-end food waste reduction
system with shopping-centre restaurants. The university and ONEP have also discussed on-campus food waste
separation and consistent data-collection systems to establish a baseline for scaling up. ONEP has asked SUN
Thailand to compile food waste data and related activities from its member universities.

“Green Coffee” at Siam University
Siam University, in partnership with Zuspresso (Thailand) Co., Ltd., opened a new ZUS Coffee outlet on campus
on 30 June 2026. It is ZUS Coffee’s 19th branch in Thailand. The outlet aims to enhance the learning and lifestyle
environment for students, staff, and visitors, and it is consistent with the university’s “Reinventing for
Sustainable Future” and “Green Office” campus policies. The partnership also reflects ZUS Coffee’s approach to
sustainability, which builds environmental and social responsibility into its business model. The company aligns
its operations with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic
Growth), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). It has taken part in
programmes that convert used coffee grounds into biofuel and upcycle daily coffee waste to reduce its carbon
footprint. Across its store network, it also works to minimise waste, reduce energy consumption, and adopt
environmentally friendly practices.
