About Siam University

Siam University is a private comprehensive university in Thailand, established in 1965 by the late Dr. Narong Mongkhonvanit. Originally founded as a technical institution to respond to the country’s growing demand for engineering and professional education, the University has progressively expanded its academic scope and institutional capacity. It was renamed Siam Technical College in 1973, Siam Technical University in 1986, and Siam University in 1989. Today, it serves as a center for higher education, professional development, research, innovation, and international collaboration.

Located in the Phasi Charoen District of Bangkok, Siam University occupies an urban setting that provides convenient access to the city’s transportation networks, commercial centers, public institutions, and surrounding communities. Its location supports engagement with industry, government agencies, civil society, and local communities, creating opportunities for experiential learning, professional training, community-based research, and collaborative innovation. The University’s relationship with its surrounding urban environment also provides a valuable context for exploring sustainable urban development, inclusive growth, and community resilience.

The University also recognizes that campus infrastructure should contribute to environmental responsibility and quality of life. Sustainability-oriented campus management encompasses energy and resource efficiency, waste management, water conservation, green spaces, and environmental awareness. For more than 50 years, the University has carried on our missions to respond to the need of the country in providing quality education. We have become one of the largest private universities with a student body presently containing around 10,000 students from countries around the world.

In accordance with the “Reinventing University” initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), in which Siam University was classified in Strategic Group 2 “Technology and Innovation,” we have revised our programs of study and activities. At the undergraduate level, Siam University offers programs across health sciences, engineering and technology, business, humanities, social sciences, law, and the creative arts. Its academic units include the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Science, Business Administration, Communication Arts, Liberal Arts, Law, and Political Science, as well as the College of Music and Performing Arts and the International College. These programs encompass professional qualifications in healthcare, engineering, computing, business management, accounting, communication, hospitality and tourism, languages, and other applied disciplines. The curriculum combines foundational knowledge with professional practice, project-based learning, and opportunities for engagement with industry and communities. Particular emphasis is placed on digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and entrepreneurial competencies to prepare graduates for an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven world. At the postgraduate level, the University offers master’s and doctoral programs designed to deepen disciplinary expertise, strengthen professional leadership, and advance research capacity. These programs promote advanced inquiry, independent research, evidence-based decision-making, and the application of knowledge to organizational and societal challenges. Through research-oriented learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, postgraduate students are encouraged to develop innovations and contribute to knowledge creation, professional advancement, and sustainable development. In addition, we provide international academic pathways that connect Thai higher education with the global academic community. The Global Academy provides a unique Two-Degree study program with our partners La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia in the fields of business, computer science and information technology.
