Our Dedication to Sustainable Future

Siam University is committed to work on sustainable development since “Sustainability” is one of “The Three Pillars of Siam University” (Employability, Diversity, Sustainability). We continuously promote initiatives in the management system and activities in order to achieve our goal to become a good exemplary of sustainable development. Our students and staff are encouraged to become change agents for environmental, economic and socio-cultural betterment of communities and society.

Besides academic, research and engagement activities, Siam University has hosted many conferences, seminar and webinars in sustainable development. And, in order to better accomplish our mission, Siam University has built strong networks with partners from local and international public, private sectors as well as NGOs. Together with Asia eUniversity in Singapore, in 2017, we have initiated the Asian Cooperation Dialogue-University Network (ACD-UN) and has become the leader of the research cluster in Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and Sustainable Development. When SUN Thailand (Sustainable University Network of Thailand) was initiated, Siam University becomes the first private university to join its membership in 2016. We have been an active member since. Internationally, we have participated in SDG-related conferences such as ISCN (International Sustainable Campus Network), IWGM (International Workshop on UI GreenMetric World University Rankings). Collaborative work has been done with international organizations such as UNESCO Bangkok, SEAMEO and the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO) which is an independent, international membership association founded in 1948, the year of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In the International Association of Universities (IAU), our President, Dr. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit, serves not only as its Vice President but also Head of the Higher Education and Research for Sustainable Development (HESD) Cluster in SDG11. Besides, our Vice President, Professor Emeritus Dr. Chanita Rukspollmuang, has been invited as representative of Asia to be 1 of the 8 international working group to draft the 2020 Magna Charta Universitatum (2020MCU) which emphasizes among other values, academic freedom and university responsibilities including sustainable development. She was also appointed the SEAMEO-ESD fellow in 2019. The latest international organization that we participate is the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), which has accepted Siam University as its member on April 19, 2021. We have since take part in the international conference of the UNSDSN and webinars organized by “SDG Move” of the Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University which is a national SDSN host.

After many years, we find that our mission towards sustainable university is very valuable but challenging. Siam University started to submit our data for international rankings in the 2017 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings and provide our first “Sustainability Report” online. We have moved from 168th in 2017 to 93rd of the world and 5th in the country in the latest 2020 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. It is also worth mentioning that we are the only private university in Thailand that was ranked by the 2021 THE Impact Rankings.

With all these good work, Siam University will continuously keep our promise to co-build a better world and sustainable future for all by 2030.
