Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation

Siam University situated on the bank of Bang Chak canal which flows into Chao Phraya River and the Gulf of Thailand. Water management in canals and ponds within and around the campus is thus imperatives. The University, mainly the Faculty of Nursing and the Student Affairs have initiated many projects with the aim for sustainable water management and sanitation. The outstanding project  “Water Conservation and Development Project” has strong cooperation with the U-tokapat Foundation under the Royal Patronage of H.M. the King and the Office of Phasi chareon District for many consecutive years. Under the leadership of the Faculty of Nursing, students and staff from the faculty have worked on the year project in Bang Chak canal continuously. The project also received mutual collaboration from Sri Pradu community which located next to our campus. Together, we have treated water in the canal by using “living” garbage traps and EM balls. We started the project by making  nearby communities, located on the bank of Bang Chak canal, aware of the necessary of clean water and sanitation as well as how we can treat the water and recycle it for household use. In our campus, the students started a “bicycling for water” project in which they can bike and water trees in the campus at the same time. The project has won many awards such as in the 2019 and 2020 SUN Thailand (Sustainable University Network of Thailand) student contests and have received the first runner-up prize in the 2020 competition of the U-tokapat Foundation under the Royal Patronage of H.M. the King.
